About
I manage the fossil conservation laboratory at the University of Texas, where I prepare and conserve fossils for research and exhibit, supervise 15-20 employees, students, and volunteers per semester, and conduct fieldwork. I also instruct graduate and undergraduate students in preparation and conservation in the Paleontological Laboratory Methods course. I have recently renovated the fossil preparation facility, adding air abrasive and chemical preparation capabilities, and a fossil bone histology laboratory. I also oversee the maintenance, equipment, and safety of the modern osteological preparation laboratory.
My primary research focus is paleontological laboratory methods and their relationship to the field of paleontology as a whole. I am specifically interested in vertebrate fossil preparation and conservation, especially experimenting with new tools, methods, and technologies.
One of my goals is to develop a more thorough understanding of how past and future treatments will effect specimens as sources of data, and the impact these treatments have on the science of paleontology.
